No adequate controlled data are available during human gestation. Use omeprazole during pregnancy only when the benefit to the mother out weighs any potential risk to the fetus. It ¡s not known if omeprazole is excreted into breast milk. Omeprazole should be used with caution during breast-feeding. Omeprazole should be administered with caution to patients with hepatic disease since clearance of the drug can be prolonged. Dosage adjustments, however, are generally not needed. In addition, omeprazole has been associated with hepatitis and, in rare instances, hepatic failure. Antimicrobials, lansoprazole, omeprazole, and bismuth preparations suppress H.pylori. Ingestion of these substances within four (4) weeks prior to performing urease or breath tests for H.pylori detection may lead to false negative results. In the four weeks prior to performing the test, the patient must avoid the use omeprazole and other agents which are known to suppress H.pylori.
